Oslo

After sailing overnight we docked in Oslo. The Akershus Fortress and Castle was alongside.

We visited a few attractions.

Firstly the Kon Tiki Museum which displays Thor Heyerdahl’s incredible journeys.


Peru to Tahiti on a balsawood raft









The Viking ship museum houses 3 preserved burial ships in surprising good order.










 Bones found with wreck.

Vigelandsparken.

An art park where a famous Norwegian artist, Gustav Vigeland, between 1924 and 1943using real models made statues of  everyday life and the journey from birth to death.
Figures abound on a platform and a water fountain.






















Overnight we sailed to our next port of call, Kristiansand.

Estonian Open Air Museum

A short local bus ride to an outer suburb of Tallinn took us to the Estonian Open Air Museum that has traditional buildings from all over the country. All buildings have been dismantled in their home villages and reassembled to conserve their heritage. The interiors contained traditional furniture and we saw a number of handcrafts and displays. It was spread over a large area and we saw a good cross section of Estonian country lifestyle and culture over the ages.   At the Sassi-Janni Farmstead we saw a typical, early 19 th century West Estonian farmstead grouped around a pole operated well. Grain was kept in the attic and dried by smoke from the family stove. We were also treated to an hour-long display of Estonian folk dancing which is widely practised by people of all ages. Honolulu

Honolulu: Not Waikiki or Pearl Harbour this time. With limited time in Honolulu, the girls hit the outlet shops and the boys went to the Bishop Museum .  A banyan tree outside the Hawaiian Hall of the Bishop museum Bishop Museum is home to the largest collection of Hawaiian artifacts in the world and houses over 25 million historical and cultural items from all over the Pacific.
